One kitchen, two cooks, a lot of fruit.

Harrow Lane began in 2019, when a neighbour’s damson hedge produced more fruit than anyone could eat. Ines had a copper pan from her grandmother. Tom had a label printer and opinions about type.

Six years on we still cook every batch in pans small enough to stir by hand. We buy fruit from growers we can drive to, pot while hot, and write the batch number on every jar the same afternoon. When the fruit runs out, so does the jar.

How a batch gets made

01

Picked

Fruit comes from growers within thirty miles. We buy by the crate, not by the tonne.

02

Cooked

In a 12 litre copper pan, about 40 jars at a time, three pans to a batch.

03

Potted

Into sterilised jars while it is still hot, then sealed and left to settle overnight.

04

Labelled

Every jar gets its batch number and best-before date, written the same day.
